Connect a Leica Zeno antenna

Use a Leica Zeno GG04 plus or FLX100 plus through Leica's Zeno Connect app, which shares the antenna's NMEA with OpenSurvey3D on the phone itself.

On this page

A Leica Zeno antenna doesn't connect to OpenSurvey3D directly. Leica's Zeno Connect app owns the antenna's Bluetooth link and its RTK corrections, and passes the antenna's NMEA to OpenSurvey3D on the phone itself. Nothing goes over the internet or your Wi-Fi network, so there's no pairing and no local network prompt in OpenSurvey3D.

Supported antennas

Antenna Through Notes
Leica Zeno GG04 plus Zeno Connect 4.0 or later Tested with Zeno Connect 4.3
Leica Zeno FLX100 plus Zeno Connect 4.0 or later Same connection as the GG04 plus

Before you start

  • Install Zeno Connect (4.0 or later) and connect the antenna in it.
  • In Zeno Connect's NMEA settings, turn on GGA, GST and GSA. GGA carries the position, GST its accuracy and GSA the DOP. Without GST and GSA, Horizontal σ and PDOP stay empty in Receiver status.
  • Set up NTRIP corrections in Zeno Connect, if you're working RTK.

Connect

  1. Leave Zeno Connect running, and switch to OpenSurvey3D.
  2. Hold the accuracy pill to open Precision, or go to Settings → Precision & receiver.
  3. Tap Source. The Positioning source screen opens.
  4. Under Leica Zeno, tap Connect to Zeno Connect.
  5. The section shows Connected with a green check mark. Back in Precision, the Source row reads Leica Zeno and Connected · fixed (or whatever fix type the antenna has).

Keep Zeno Connect running in the background while you work. If it's closed, positions stop until it's open again, and OpenSurvey3D reconnects by itself. The section shows Reconnecting… (attempt n) with the reason while it waits. Tap Stop to give up, or Disconnect to stop using the antenna.

Corrections

Corrections for a Zeno antenna run in Zeno Connect, not in OpenSurvey3D. OpenSurvey3D can't send corrections to a Zeno antenna, so while it's connected:

  • The NTRIP corrections section says "A Zeno antenna takes its corrections from Zeno Connect, which runs NTRIP itself — set up the caster and mountpoint there. The fix type below shows whether they are arriving." Connect corrections stays greyed out.
  • Corrections link in Receiver status reads Not available. That's expected.
  • The pill still shows the fix type and correction age that Zeno Connect reports.

On each corrected fix, the correction source is recorded as Zeno Connect. Tell the app which frame Zeno Connect's corrections are in with Corrections are in, in the NTRIP corrections section. See The frame your corrections are in.

Coordinate system and geoid

Zeno Connect has its own coordinate system setting. It doesn't affect OpenSurvey3D: positions come in as latitude and longitude, and the app projects them into your project's zone itself.

The geoid set in Zeno Connect does matter. It sets the elevation the antenna sends, so record that geoid under Tools → Vertical datum. See Set the vertical datum.

Antenna height

Set the antenna height in one place only. Set it to 0 in Zeno Connect and enter the pole height in OpenSurvey3D under Precision → Antenna height. If a height is already set in Zeno Connect, keep the pole height here at zero so it isn't applied twice. See Set the antenna height.

If something's wrong

You see What to do
Zeno Connect isn't running, or no antenna is connected in it Open Zeno Connect, check the antenna shows as connected, then switch back.
Zeno Connect didn't answer Zeno Connect didn't respond within a few seconds. Open it, check it's version 4.0 or later and the antenna is connected, then tap Connect to Zeno Connect again.
Horizontal σ or PDOP is missing Turn on GST and GSA in Zeno Connect's NMEA settings.

What the app records

The receiver is recorded as Zeno Connect, and the source as Leica Zeno (Zeno Connect). A new raw NMEA log starts each time you connect, as for any receiver. See Keep raw NMEA logs.
